What qualifications do you need for a bareboat charter?

To qualify for a bareboat charter you need a documented sailing resume, and most Caribbean fleets also want a certification such as ASA 104, RYA Day Skipper or an ICC. The resume matters more than the paper. Fleet operators ask where you have skippered, on what size boat and how recently; chartering a 45-foot catamaran usually requires prior time on a comparable cat, not just monohull miles. The BVI has no legal license requirement, so approval rests entirely on that resume, while parts of the Mediterranean demand an ICC by law. Thin experience has fixes. Operators can place a skipper aboard for the first day or two, and a fully crewed yacht removes the qualification question altogether, as explained in this bareboat vs crewed pricing guide.
