Is a crewed yacht charter safe for a child with a nut allergy?

Yes, a crewed yacht charter can be safe for a child with a nut allergy, provided the chef and captain hear about it before the yacht is chosen, not after. So raise it at booking. The preference sheet comes later, roughly two months out, and a good broker puts the allergy at the top of the report the crew receives and makes it the first item on the crew introduction call.

Then ask the chef directly. Has this chef cooked a fully nut-free week before? Can the galley carry no nuts at all, including almond flour, pesto, nut oils and granola? How are imported provisions checked for “may contain” warnings? Where will the auto-injectors be kept? Pack two per child.

Last, ask the captain how far each anchorage sits from a hospital. In the BVI that means Dr. D. Orlando Smith Hospital in Road Town, Tortola, and Anegada is the longest run back. The guide to chartering with kids covers the rest of the family planning.
