How is APA tracked and settled during a yacht charter?
APA is tracked by the captain in a running ledger and settled on the last day of the charter. Receipts go into a folder β fuel, dockage, provisioning, drinks, port fees, communications. Most captains hand the guest a daily expense summary so the running balance is never a surprise. At the end-of-charter accounting meeting, the captain walks through every line item, totals the actual spend, and returns the unused APA in the same currency it was paid in (USD in the Caribbean, EUR in the Med). Overruns get billed at the same meeting and are usually paid in cash or by wire. The transparency is the entire point of the APA model. The MYBA contract spells out exactly which line items APA covers.
